parent helplines
Phone counsellors can help when you're feeling at the end of your tether and phone advisors can give you practical specific information. You can call anonymously. There are lots of parent helplines and many of them are 24-hour lines or have 7-day daytime access, although the situation with any of them can change depending on funding.
New Zealand has a more civilised system of midwifery visits, with daily home visits straight after your baby is born, which give way to weekly visits. In New Zealand newborn babies are usually under the care of a midwife for the first month. After that, or before that if you don't have a midwife, the Plunket Society is the organisation to contact for prenatal care and help after the birth with any breastfeeding or other concerns.
